About the Book

Three Dog Bowls is a heartfelt memoir chronicling the author’s life journey as seen through the stories of fifteen beloved dogs she has owned and cared for over decades.

It blends personal narrative, pet memoir, and gentle life lessons, told partly from her perspective and partly from the imagined perspectives of the dogs themselves. Across chapters, she recounts:

  • Each dog’s unique story — from rescues and adoptions to raising puppies and saying bittersweet goodbyes.
  • Farm and family life in rural Indiana, where dogs were constant companions and part of daily routines.
  • Lessons learned about responsibility, breeding ethics, veterinary care, and the emotional bonds between humans and animals.
  • Themes of loss and renewal — showing how the love of one dog often leads to welcoming another, continuing the “three dog bowls” tradition in her home.
  • A belief in spiritual continuity — that dogs return in spirit, perhaps in different bodies, bringing familiar affection and mannerisms.

At its core, the book is a celebration of the love, loyalty, and life lessons dogs bring, and a testament to the healing, joy, and companionship they offer over a lifetime.
